Hand woven in Western Persia during the 2nd half of the 19th century. A village workshop weaving in the large scale palmette style.

Construction: All wool pile on a cotton foundation, non depressed warp weave using Persian knotting technique, Multiple cord wrapped selvedge, short fringe end finish.

Design type: An all over large scale palmette design with meandering vine and leaf forms as well as smaller floral devices. The arrangement is a classic for this group that relates to 16th and 17th century Persian and Indian court style carpets. The drawing of this rug is has a unforced freedom about it which is most desirable in village weavings. An intricate floral border system frames this example letting the field play the major role.

Color: A complex range of softer jewel and earth tones using vegetable dye materials.
