Hand woven in Western Persia during the 2nd half of the 19th century. A village workshop example using traditional weaving techniques.

Construction: All wool pile on a cotton foundation, non depressed warp weave using Persian knotting technique, single cord wrapped selvedge, short fringe end finish.

Design type: A large scale example based on a 17th century Mughal Millifluers carpet. Large scale palmette and vine forms, birds, and smaller floral devices, fill the field with a large vase anchoring the arrangement. The Mihrab Niche contains similar elements to that of the field. A floral head and leaf cluster border frames the piece.

Color: Ivory ground with a softer range of jewel and earth tones. Vegetable dye materials.
