This antique rug emerges from the weaving traditions of Northwest Persia, where Kurdish artisans developed the distinctive all-over field patterns that define regional workshop production. Hand-knotted with hand-spun wool on cotton foundations, the textile employs natural dyes—madder root for the warm terracotta tones, walnut hulls for the rich browns, and indigo for subtle blue accents that punctuate the geometric vocabulary. The field presents a continuous lattice of diamond medallions and stylized floral motifs, each rendered with the precise angularity characteristic of tribal looms. Multiple guard borders frame the composition, featuring reciprocal patterns and palmette sequences that demonstrate the weaver's command of traditional Persian border systems. The abrash—natural color variation inherent to hand-dyeing—creates subtle tonal shifts across the wool surface, while decades of use have developed a distinctive patina that softens the original chromatic intensity. Kurdish workshops in the Hamadan region produced these runner formats for both domestic use and regional trade networks during the early-to-mid 20th century. The technical execution reflects generations of transmitted knowledge, from the balanced tension of hand-spun warps to the systematic color placement that maintains pattern clarity across the extended field. This represents accomplished village weaving at its most refined expression. Discover more Persian Rugs
