Vintage Turkish Anatolian Kilim

This Anatolian kilim demonstrates the geometric precision and earthy palette characteristic of Turkish rugs from the central highlands. Handwoven in flatweave technique with hand-spun wool and natural dyes, the textile centers three diamond medallions along a stepped cruciform arrangement against a muted field of grey-brown. Each medallion contains a smaller lozenge filled with scattered star motifs, while stylized animal forms occupy the horizontal extensions of each cross.

The weaver employed madder root for the coral-red tones and walnut hulls for the deeper browns, creating the subtle color variations that distinguish workshop production from commercial manufacture. Multiple guard borders frame the composition, with reciprocal patterns in cream and coral alternating with rows of small geometric devices. The outermost border features a classic diamond-and-hook motif rendered in dusty rose against dark brown.
