Woven in Anatolian workshops, this hand-knotted rug demonstrates the sophisticated geometric vocabulary that distinguishes Turkish rugs from their Persian and Caucasian counterparts. The central field features a prominent hexagonal medallion surrounded by smaller geometric motifs, all rendered in a palette of deep reds, warm golds, and natural ivory derived from madder root and walnut hulls. The main border carries a series of stylized vessel motifs—a recurring element in Anatolian textile traditions that speaks to both domestic life and ceremonial use. Flanking borders display reciprocal geometric patterns that frame the composition with mathematical precision. Hand-spun wool foundation and natural dye materials create the subtle color variations and lustrous patina that develop through generations of use. The weaving technique employs the Turkish knot, creating the dense, durable pile characteristic of Anatolian workshop production. This piece represents the intersection of village craft tradition and sophisticated design sensibility, where geometric abstraction serves both aesthetic and cultural purposes within the broader context of Turkish textile arts.
