This antique Heriz has a brick-red ground with deep indigo and ivory, pale blue and rose accents. It features a characteristic geometric lobbed medallion with pendants and complex spandrels. All areas are embellished with a dense flurry of stylized floral and geometric motifs. The composition is framed by an elaborate crab border on a dark ground. Heriz, in northwestern Iran, is a center for fine tribal rugs which interpret classical Tabriz-style composition with intricate geometricization and village charm.
