Antique Persian Mahal Rug 56554
Couldn't load pickup availability
This Antique Mahal features a densely patterned ivory field with brilliant red-ground diamond medallion and borders. Secondary colors include vivid blue and golden yellow. The field pattern is a lattice structure with lanceolate leaves, palmettes and rosettes. A fine crab motif articulates the border. Half medallions extend from the border into the field with similar elements at the corners. Mahal rugs are a variety of the distinguished Sarouk, produced in the Sultanabad area of northwest Iran (current day Arak), a prominent center of village and workshop productions in the 19th and 20th centuries, often for the European market.
